Testimonials for non-profits
Donors don't give to organisations — they give to impact. A statistic tells the brain. A story from someone whose life changed tells the heart. Testimonials bridge the gap between what you do and why it matters.
Why testimonials matter for non-profits
❤️
Inspire donations
Impact stories convert better than impact reports. A donor who sees a life changed is far more likely to give than one who reads an annual review.
🤝
Build trust
Donors want to know their money is making a real difference. First-hand accounts from beneficiaries provide proof that numbers can't convey.

Amplify reach
A powerful testimonial shared by the subject reaches their entire network. Word-of-mouth from actual beneficiaries is your most authentic marketing.

Beneficiary story
Let someone you've helped tell their story in their own words and setting. Raw and unscripted is more powerful than polished.
Donor motivation
Ask a long-time donor why they give. Their answer will resonate with potential donors who feel the same way.
Volunteer experience
Volunteers are your best ambassadors. A short video of them explaining why they give their time inspires others to do the same.
Questions to ask your community
What made you decide to support our cause for the first time?
How has our work affected you or someone you care about?
What would you tell someone who's considering donating?
What difference have you seen our organisation make?
Why do you keep supporting us year after year?
What would happen if our organisation didn't exist?
How did our support make you feel at a difficult time?
Would you encourage others to get involved? What would you say?
Common mistakes
Only collecting from donors — beneficiary testimonials are more powerful. Show the people you help, not just the people who fund you.
Not getting video — a beneficiary's face and voice telling their story creates an emotional connection text can't match.
Not asking for permission — especially for sensitive stories. Always get written consent before sharing anyone's story publicly.
Only focusing on metrics — 'we served 10,000 meals' is a number. 'This meal saved my family' is a testimonial. Both matter, but the story converts.
Not making it easy to give feedback — a collection link in a follow-up email after a programme works. A long form doesn't.
Not featuring testimonials on donation pages — the moment someone is deciding to give is exactly when they need to see impact proof.
Not updating testimonials — a story from 5 years ago feels stale. Fresh testimonials show ongoing relevance and momentum.
