Common mistakes
Not asking for testimonials — many consultants think results speak for themselves. They don't. A testimonial is a decision-maker's shortcut to trust.
Asking too generically — "would you write a recommendation?" gets a LinkedIn endorsement. Ask for a specific outcome instead.
Not getting video testimonials — a client saying "they doubled our revenue" on camera has far more weight than the same quote in text.
Waiting too long — ask right after a milestone or project completion. The excitement is fresh and the willingness to help is highest.
Not making it easy — send a link. Tell them it takes 2 minutes. Remove every barrier between them and their testimonial.
Not featuring testimonials on your proposal — the best time to show social proof is before the client signs, not after.
Not categorising by service — a testimonial about strategy doesn't help sell your execution work. Organise by offering.
