Common mistakes collecting student testimonials

Asking for testimonials too late — capture feedback when the student is most excited (right after a win or course completion), not weeks later.

Only collecting text — video testimonials from students carry enormous weight. Most students will record if you make it easy.

Not giving students a specific prompt — "tell us about your experience" gets vague answers. Ask about a specific result or moment.

Asking for too much — a focused 30-second video or 3-sentence quote is more effective than a 5-minute essay most won't write.

Hiding testimonials below the fold — your best student quotes belong on your sales page, not buried in a carousel nobody clicks.

Not following up with the most engaged students — the ones who comment in the community, ask questions, and finish projects will give the best testimonials.
